Hummer Sales Make Huge Gains in Russia

HUMMER was the only automaker this May in Russia to post a sales gain, according to Automotive News. HUMMER sales rose 111.5% while other automakers posted a double digit decline. During the first five months of the year HUMMER sales were up 85.6%, compared to a 47% average drop in sales among all automakers. The Auto Insider reports sales between the "H2 and H3 were split almost evenly at 52% and 48% respectively. The Russians have found that the Hummer is a superior mud and snow machine that can take the Russian winters. Boris Ynaekinov tells us that the market for used Hummers is also going through the roof in Russia - up 173% since August of 2008."

While HUMMERs don’t account for a very large portion of Russia’s overall vehicle consumption, increased demand for HUMMERs is a great thing. International sales are a vital part of HUMMER’s long-term viability, and will play an important role in the design and timeline of future HUMMER models.

Avtotor Motors in Kaliningrad, Russia has quietly been producing a handful of Hummer H2s and H3s under an agreement with GM since 2006 for the five Hummer dealers in Russia and sources say they are VERY INTERESTED in the H1.
