Extra Gas!

The hurricane is coming and you have to evacuate. You are fortunate because your Hummer can hold a lot of "stuff" inside, go places no car would dare, & cut across that steep median to get in the opposite direction hurricane evacuation lanes, but for all of its loving qualities gas mileage is not one. Gas won't be available at the exits and those with gas are probably only going to take cash.

During hurricane season I keep my tank 3/4 full all the time! I also have four 5 gallon gas cans I can strap down to my roof rack, bumper carrier, gobi rack, or put in the bed of an SUT. NEVER STORE GASOLINE INSIDE THE VEHICLE! It may sound elementary, but during Katrina several drivers and passengers were overcome by gas fumes inside the vehicle from portable gas cans. Traffic will be at a standstill, so the extra gas gives me 400 miles of range comfortably.

As a side note, it was found that during the Katrina evacuation, cellphones were almost useless due to saturation of the system, HOWEVER, the Red Cross reports that they had no problem communicating with their GM vehicles using OnStar. Evacuees also reported that when their cellphones wouldn't work their OnStar phone capability for the most part did.
