Hummer Future Brightens

According to The Phantom, THE inside source of Hummer half-truths and innuendo, China auto manufacturer Changfeng is currently in serious negotiations with AM General and GM to manufacture the Hummer. Specifics of the deal are in the "advanced discussion phase," but Changfeng would own 50% of Hummer and AM General would own 50%. It is no secret that talks concerning the Hummer were held with Changfeng & Dongfeng during the 2008 Olympics in China. Discussions are also being held with AM General on what future form the Hummer HX should take.

The AM General plant would continue to produce the H2 and there is discussion about limited retooling for an updated H1. The military Humvee is still be produced at the AM General plant as well as the H2 at AM General's Mishawake, IN plant. The H2 plant is considered one of the most modern and up to date vehicle assembly plants in the world.

GM bought the marketing and brand right for Hummer from AM General in 1999. Production of the H1 Alpha was halted in 2006, despite a strong worldwide demand for the updated H1. The Phantom said today, that Changfeng is also interested in the Hummer H3 with a diesel powerplant for worldwide production, although this Hummer is currently produced in a gasoline only version in Shreveport, at a GM plant. Putting Hummer back in the hands of AM General with a cash and engineering infusion from Changfeng would be a wonderful Christmas present to all Hummer lovers. As Confuscius says, "May you live in interesting times."
