Hummer Plot Thickens

Hummer insider, The Phantom, stands by his news that Changfeng, Dongfeng, AM General and another large US manufacturer are in the hunt for Hummer. While all the speculation goes on, Dongfeng is also interested in the Hummer brand and has produced a Chinese version of the H1. The Phantom says not to count them out, although they may not have the cash reserves of Changfeng. AM General denied the story this week to a local news station. http://www.wndu.com/localnews/headlines/36251414.html

The Phantom, said the reasons for the denial are obvious because only two or three people at the very top of AM General are aware of the negotiations, but formeost, GM is afraid that any cash influx from a sale of Hummer would hurt its chances of receiving a bailout from Congress. Also, if and when GM does receive a cash bailout, would a billion or less of that bailout go with the Hummer sale to AM General as part of the deal? Then you run into licensing agreements if part of the Hummer is built in China by Changfeng.

Sitting quietly in the background and also in the hunt is Dongfeng, a Chinese manufacturer that has already produced a Chinese version of the H1 and has the licensing agreement to do so. AM General has even supplied Dongfeng with parts to build their Chinese H1.

One thing is for sure, there is more worldwide corporate interest in the Hummer brand than anything GM can bring to the table for sale. Whatever happens with Hummer, it is doubtful that it will happen until after the inauguration in January.

Hummer has a worldwide demand and instant name recognition. It would be a Christmas dream come true to see Hummer back in the hands of AM General. AM General's reputation for quality, dependability and rugged engineering design is legendary.......just ask those who own H1s and H2s, or those whose lives depend on the abilities of the Humvee!
