The Phantom says that recent leaks about AM General buying back Hummer have a basis in fact.
Last we heard, talks indicated original Hummer owner, AM General was interested in buying back the automaker in conjunction with China's Hunan Chengfeng Motor Company.
The AM General H2 plant already has another deal lined up to build taxis in 2010. Remember American General produces this product for General Motors. Producing both the H2 and the taxi would help open the production line this year http://newsfeedresearcher.com/data/articles_b14/hummer-brand-vehicles.html
They have been able to relocate some of the laid off H2 workers with the military Humvee production because of increased orders, but they can't afford to let the modern H2 plant lie idle much longer.
Another thing going for this deal is the strong St. Louis connection between the owner of AM General and AM General's relationship with Hummer dealer, Jim Lynch in Missouri. The Phantom feels the H2 plant could be bought "much cheaper than now after a GM declared bankruptcy in June." AM General has been a strong background player in the current dealings and has remained out of most Hummer speculation. They could have the plant operational again making H2s in a week, but they can't afford to leave that plant idle much longer as they decide the fate of taxi production. The South Bend Tribune states that the deal for taxi production at the H2 plant would bring many workers back to the plant.
