E85 Ethanol H2 report

Bob has a new 2009 H2 in Council Bluffs Iowa. He tells me that E85 fuel is plentiful there and he is currently paying $1.49 a gallon for it. As for the performance of his Hummer, he states that except for a velvety smooth idle with the E85, he can hardly tell any difference between running gasoline or E85.

"It doesn't seem to shift more in hilly terrain and the mileage is almost the same as when I'm running gasoline, perhaps 1 mpg less", but E85 is one dollar a gallon cheaper than premium fuel, so there is a significant dollar savings. Bob also says there is almost no difference in wide open acceleration with the E85 over premium. "I haven't timed the 0 to 60 with premium versus ethanol, but my seat of the pants says it's very similar. When I run E85 and get out of my Hummer with it's running, the exhaust has a slight alcohol smell, like an alcohol dragster."

Bob tells me he has switched to synthetic oil for his motor and his Hummer is 100% free of petroleum products now. Who ever thought a Hummer could be so green on this Earth Day!
