H2 still has a strong future

Hummer H2 Sales
Calendar Year / Total American sales
2002 / 18,861
2003 / 34,529
2004 / 28,898
2005 / 33,140
2006 / 17,472
2007 / 12,431
2008 / 6,095

If the H2 is discontinued, there will be a huge market in replacement parts and service for the Hummer. Over 100,000 Hummer H2s are still on the road in the United States and as we all know, Hummer owners are fanatical about the way they maintain and modify their vehicles.
One owner I know with a 2004 H2 replaces his front windshield every time he gets a small chip and brags he's had 8 windshields since he's owned his H2 and one repaint because of scratches from brush offroading. When it comes to aftermarket equipment, the Hummer leads the SUV field with tires, rims, brush guards, entry steps, gobi racks, offroad lights, bling, suspension upgrades and even supercharging.
Some say the new 30 mpg for trucks and SUVs actually favors the future for the H2 because vehicles with a Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW) of over 8,000 pounds aren't covered in the new law. The H2 has a GVW of 8,600 pounds and would be exempt under the current wording. Therefore, the H2 is the only SUV you can buy that will be exempt from this ruling by 2016, unless you are looking at a Kenworth, Freightliner, or Peterbuilt as an SUV.
