In an announcement by a GM manufacturing plant manger in May, it was said that the H3 would start production again the last week of July. The word is still MUM on the H2, but a plant insider says they haven't switched the tooling over to taxi cab production. He also said that they have GM 6.2 engines, transmissions, body panels, interior parts and frames in stock at the H2 plant in Mishawaka, IN and some GM H2 parts have arrived in June and July at the plant.
Production of the 6.2 V8 will continue, however in September the big L18 V8 will be discontinued.
The Phantom who has been on the money with most of his insights, says the Hummer lines will start up, but probably in August instead of July. Unfortunately, dealers are being kept in the dark. Recent legislation in the US House of Representatives, which is about to go to the Senate would restore some Hummer dealerships if they were forced to close by GM.
Although the law would apply to both GM and Chrysler closed dealerships, according to the Phantom the current wording would allow Hummer dealers to sue GM for damages if the Hummer production is discontinued. Dealers that closed by their own choice would not be allowed to seek remuneration under the current wording of the bill, which still may be changed in the Senate. Wording in the current bill also prohibits the export of any US manufactured Hummer vehicles or parts to North Korea.
Also from the Phantom is late breaking news that if and when H2 production starts a yellow exterior color option will be available on the 2010 H2.
