GM HALTS HUMMER PRODUCTION

GM has halted production of the H3 Hummer in Louisiana because dealers are finding sales of the H3 to be slower than expected. The big drawback is that consumers are worried about the warranty and service with the future of Hummer still in doubt. It's a lot of cash to put down for a vehicle when there might be no dealers or company in the future to stand behind it. The Phantom says that due to pressure from the Chinese government the Tengzhong deal is not going to happen and dealers will be informed by GM in a conference call soon. The Phantom also says the start up of the H2 factory in Indiana is in doubt also. If you want a Hummer, especially an H2 (very few 2009s remaining) now is the time IMHO. Unless another buyer steps up to the plate, it looks like the last Hummers have rolled off the line. The Phantom tells me the chance of a new buyer surfacing is "slim to none," althought there is renewed interest by one US group.
