SHREVEPORT, LA - Shreveport's Union Auto Workers' president was in Chicago to hear a company's proposal at Sunday's "Save Hummer Motors in America Summit." Ritchie Management Company is interested in saving the Hummer brand. Another suitor was also rumored to be in attendance.
Production is winding down for the Hummer brand at the Shreveport General Motors' plant, with only one special order of about 850 Hummers left on the line. An American firm management company thinks they have what it takes to resurrect the struggling brand and according to Union President Doug Ebey, the Ritchie Management Company has proven that their strategy works. "These people have a history," he said. "They were involved when Harley Davidson was about to go out of business."
This is just another avenue the company is investigating to try to save Hummer. The owner of Ritchie Management was quoted on April 1st saying their vision to resurrect the Hummer line includes turning them into the greenest vehicles made in America. He said that is no April fools joke. The time to save Hummer is now before the entire Hummer dealership network perishes.
