I am a longtime, avid 4 X 4 and offroad enthusiast & drive a Hummer H2. There is no doubt, that when it comes to offroading or just getting through mud, high water, or deep snow, nothing beats a Hummer. Whether you drive an H1, H2, or H3, these vehicles are built RUGGED from the ground up with an attention to detail only true offroaders appreciate. They are fun to drive and can go places angels fear to tread.
4 X 4 touches include, extra thick skid plates, thick plastic gas tank covers (plastic so they don't create sparks when they hit rocks), locking differentials, heavy duty transfer cases, specialized shocks and springs and the list goes on and on. The most obvious is the chassis height off the ground for obstacle clearance and wheels tucked forward and aft for good departure and approach angles.
The H2 and H3 have many creature comforts and can almost be considered "luxury offroad machines." Depending on which country or what part of the U.S. you live in, Hummers may be a rarity. You may go days without seeing one. Theses are not mass produced to the extent other 4 X 4 SUVs are, and the H1 and H2 SUT have little if any competition.
Prices too high??? With gas prices at four dollars a gallon, Hummer dealers are wheeling and dealing. Consider a used Hummer or a Hummer that is Hummer certified which carries a 6 year 100,000 mile bumper to bumper warranty and join the fun! What makes the Hummer unique, besides for its capabilities and comfort, are the individual touches you can make to yours. Maybe you like bling, or maybe you like serious offroading, or just want something that stands out and can get you to work in 15 inches of snow. The biggest misconception about Hummers is mileage.
The H3 averages 16 mpg and the H2 11 mpg when driven on the road AND THEY RUN on regular gas!

My insider at GM headquarters and good friend, The Phantom, tells me we may soon hear an announcement that GM wants to sell or discontinue the Hummer brand - STAY TUNED!
