General Dynamics has partnered with AM General to unveil the new Joint Lightweight Tactical Vehicle. AM General makes the Humvee and the H2 in Mishawaka, IN. The new JLTV is specifically designed to counter the threats that have been experienced in Iraq and IS NOT
a replacement for the rugged and time tested Humvee.
The Pentagon is testing AM General's JLTV against other competitors to determine who will with the contract for an initial manufacture of 65,000 JLTVs. AM General is the acknowledged leader in offroad technology and rugged built equipment that is easy to maintain and service. Winning this contract would boost employment for AM General and the surrounding Mishawaka area. The new vehicle has IED blast protection incorporated in every area of the design and something we need to provide our troops with as soon as possible!
Interest also continues in an extended bed version of the H2 for use by the military. Known as the H2HDMV or HDMV, Heavy Duty Military Vehicle this vehicle has been seen in spy photos on AM General's proving grounds. It is basically a diesel, beefed up, extended bed version of the civilian H2.
