After a weekend trip to a friend's cabin, my wife and I both agreed, there's nothing on the market that compares to a Hummer H2. It rides very nicely and quietly on the highway and its height gives you a commanding view. We arrived at the cabin on the lake in a pouring rain storm and the agressive factory tires and four-wheel drive system made getting through the mud a breeze. Just four hundred feet from the cabin we came across a downed 8 inch diameter sweetgum tree from the storm and drove right over it without a problem. With a normal vehicle we would have never made it on the mud road in the hills and would have had to go to a hotel or turn around and go home.
The H2 also carries gobs of supplies and weekend necessities with ease in its spacious cabin. When the second round of storms came Sunday, we had no worries because we knew our Hummer would get us out of there and the ride home on the highway would be a comfortable one. I even used the heated back feature of the seats for my aching back - it's like having a built in heating pad for your back. The sounds of Montovani and Paul Muriat (without any commercials or depressing news reports on the economy) on the XM radio and the comfort of the H2 relaxed us on the long drive home.
During the drive we realized that if they discontinue the H2 there's nothing out there, with its capabilities and comfort at any price. I doubt a Cadillac Escalade would have gotten us through the mud and a Land Rover would have never held all the "necessities" we brought along for the weekend.
That got us talking about the future of Hummer on the drive home. Should we buy an '09 H2 while they are still available and just garage it on blocks until this one needs replacing? My gut feeling is that someone will take over the Hummer brand and there will be Hummers in the future, whether it includes the H2, the H3 or the Hx no one knows, but if no one takes over Hummer and they are discontinued ................... make room in the garage for another Hummer!
