MISSION -- General Motors Corp. told the Rio Grande Valley's lone Hummer dealership last week that the company expects to sell the brand and that a new owner would continue to support the famed off-road vehicles.

Bob Vackar, owner of the Bert Ogden dealerships, said that the auto company sent him a letter last Friday updating the dealership on GM's efforts to sell Hummer to a new owner.

In the meantime, however, GM assured that they will still continue to support Hummer deals and they expect a new owner to the same, Vackar said.

"I was shocked that they would even send a letter," he said.

The letter states that GM expects to sell the brand within three weeks, Vackar said.

Already Vackar has ordered the 2010 line of Hummers for his lot at 1400 E. Expressway 83 in Mission, he said.

GM is trying to sell the Hummer, Saab and Saturn brands as part of an effort to restructure the company. Last Friday, GM informed 1,100 dealerships that they would be closed in 2010. GM plans to drop 2,600 or more dealerships, about 40 percent of its total dealer base.

Many have believed the Hummer brand was near a sale since the H2 plant still has the tooling for the H2 in place and has not transitioned to the taxicab poduction they had considered.

Great news that there will be a 2010 H2 and H3! Who's the new buyer?

HumBill - My Hummer dealer had to sign a confidentiality agreement before a recent GM meeting, but said it looks like there will be a 2010 H2 and H3 and Hummer will continue to be made. So we might see the Black Chrome H2 model afterall! He also said to look for the new Camaro like V6 in a new H3.
