Most will agree that if you can't afford a 2006 Alpha, the 2004 H1 is a lot of Hummer for the money. Used 2004s are considerably less in cost than the 2006 and boast some important features. The 2004 was the first H1 with the totally new interior with standard leather seats.
In 2004 noise absorbing material was sprayed on key body panels and the center cockpit engine cover making it MUCH quieter in the cabin than the 2003. The 6.5 L diesel was given more horsepower and more torque and a new powertrain management computer aided the entire powertrain into performing better and lasting longer. If you buy a used 2004 make sure to have someone check out the powertrain computer, since they can cost up to $2600 dollars to replace. If you can find one of the 235 non fleet 2004 H1 models they offer a lot of bang for the buck!
